The 2008-2011 Devon Local Area Agreement
The Sustainable Community Strategy will be implemented in a wide variety of ways over the course of the next ten years. The Devon Local Area Agreement (LAA) 2008-2011 is the central action plan for the next three years and further LAAs will be developed to deliver the Sustainable Community Strategy priorities and outcomes beyond this time.

The Local Area Agreement 2008-2011 is an agreement between Devon and central Government about targets for improvement which reflect the Story of Devon and contribute to both national and local priorities. Devon County Council, as the accountable body, and its partners negotiated the LAA with Government Office for the South West.
The LAA broadens the remit of local government and its partners: it draws on contributions from the public, private and third sectors working in partnership. The Devon Strategic Partnership will oversee the coordination and performance management of the Local Area Agreement.
The Agreement recognises that every place is different and:
- Focuses on improvement priorities and innovation.
- Involves local people and communities.
- Focuses on coordinated actions tailored to local needs.
The LAA broadens the remit of local government and its partners. It allows us to respond to challenges including those relating to:
- Economic prosperity
- Environmental sustainability
- Climate change
- Health and Wellbeing
- Adult Social Care
- Affordable Housing
- Community Safety
- Children and Young People
