The Priorities
Inspiring Young People
Inspiring our County's young people to achieve their best and supporting them in tackling the issues that concern them most.

How Devon is now
The rural nature of much of Devon and the need for independent transport limits the range of training, employment and leisure opportunities available to many young people.
33 of Devon's electoral wards lie within the bottom quartile nationally in the Index of Multiple Deprivation's Child Poverty category (3 wards are in the bottom 5%).
Devon's children and young people want a bigger say in the decisions that affect their lives.
Generally, educational attainment continues to rise but it is rising more slowly for the lowest attaining 20% of the population and so the gap between this group and the others is growing.
How will we achieve this Priority?
By 2018, measurable improvements will have been made in the following areas:
- We have a variety of education, employment and training routes that give young people real choice as they approach adulthood so that they have the chance to achieve economic wellbeing in Devon.
- Early intervention processes are in place so that any problems that children, young people or families have are prevented from escalating unnecessarily.
- The achievements of children and young people in Devon are celebrated
